About me

Hey!
My name is Bárbara Poerner Pereira, I am 29 years old and I am from Santa Catarina, south of Brazil, and I am currently based in São Paulo. I work as a journalist, project manager, and independent documentary filmmaker in the socio-environmental and gender fields. I am an undergraduate student in Social Sciences & Politics at the Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo (FESPSP).
I write a climate and environment column in CAPRICHO magazine and currently provide consulting services to non-profit organizations, adding a decade of experience into the projects I collaborated with. I have already worked with the Global Landscape Forum (GLF), Escola de Ativismo, Instituto Caburé, Instituto Febre, Coletivo Mulheres do Polo, Oxfam Brasil, Clima de Política, ClimaInfo, Conectas Direitos Humanos, EmpoderaClima, and Fashion Revolution. As a reporter, I have written for UOL, CLAUDIA, Elástica, ((o))eco, Terra Brasil, Agência Pública, Núcleo Jornalismo, Mina Bem Estar, and Modefica .
I was also a fellow at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), during which time I directed and produced the documentary webseries Monoculture of Energy, published in partnership with ((o))eco. Also in the film sector, I worked on documentary productions with Impossível, Nitro Histórias Visuais, and Mundo Content .
My professional journey is inspired by my years of activism in education. In 2018, I co-founded a free and popular college preparatory course called Cursinho do Zinga, in Florianópolis (SC), in which I remained as Co-Director until 2022.
My experience encompasses: (1) strategic communication planning, content production and reporting; (2) quantitative and qualitative research, data analysis and interviewing; (3) workshops development and delivery and processes using participative methodologies; (4) management and writing socio-environmental projects focusing on climate, gender, culture and human rights; (5) and documentaries productions in scriptwriting, research, field production, assistant directing and directing. I can summarize my areas of interest: human rights, socioeconomic justice and the future of work; just energy transition; politics and ways to make them more inclusive, diverse and democratic; women's rights and feminism; territories rights, practices and knowledge of traditional communities and popular movements; agroecology, nature rights and food sovereignty; sustainable and agroecological cotton systems; and social and participative design, textile manual techniques and knowledge in popular arts.
In other moments besides work, you might find me playing (or watching) volleyball, testing vegetarian recipes, reading books on politics or some other books that have gone viral on TikTok, sewing (I taught it for years!), embroidering or making ceramics, walking with Lorena (my cute dog), enjoying good times with friends and family, or just binge-watching thriller or sci-fi series.
